Kristin Genis-Lund, lyric coloratura soprano, is a San Francisco Bay area native and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor's degree in vocal performance and German. Upon returning to the Bay Area, she received her Master's degree in vocal performance from San Jose State University. Since that time, Ms. Genis-Lund has performed extensively throughout Northern California in oratorio, opera, musical theater and has given numerous recitals.
Concert appearances include Brahm's German Requiem, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass in D, Beethoven's Mass in C, Dvorak's Te Deum, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Coronation Mass and the Exultate Jubilate and Bruckner's Te Deum, in addition to a recording and live performance of Dr. Ron Kean's The American Hymn Mass with The Choral Project and Webber's Pie Jesu from The Requiem with the Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus. Ms. Genis-Lund most recently made her Bing Concert Hall debut at Stanford singing the soprano solo in the World Premiere of Giancarlo Aquilanti’s Te Deum. In 2015, Ms. Genis-Lund sang as soprano soloist with the orchestral ensemble Rosin Coven for the world premiere of The Stupid Joke, an original staged mini-opera based on one of Edward Gorey's Illustrated stories for the 16th Annual Edwardian Ball in San Francisco & Los Angeles.
She has been active in both the In-School Outreach Program and in the mainstage productions of Opera San Jose, West Bay Opera, Verismo Opera, Bay Shore Lyric Opera, as well as other Bay Area Opera companies.
Roles include Cristina Kahlo in Rodriguez’ Frida, Despina in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème, Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto, Sophie in Massenet's Werther, Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Oscar in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera, Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel & Gretel, Orlinde in Wagner's Die Walküre, Giannetta in Donizetti's L'Elisir D'Amore, Mademoiselle Silberklang and Madame Herz in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor, The Princess in Dougherty's Many Moons, Lucy in Menotti's The Telephone, Sicle in Cavalli's L'Ormindo, Nella & Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Sister Genevieve in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Frasquita in Bizet's Carmen, Manon in the title role of Massenet's opera, and Norina in Donizetti's Don Pasquale.
In the musical theatre circle, she sang the role of Laurey in Peninsula Musical Theater's production of Rodger & Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and the role of Maria in Peninsula Center Stage's production of Bernstein's West Side Story.
Ms. Genis-Lund was the first place winner in three consecutive National Association of Teachers of Singers Competitions for Art Song and Opera, the second place winner in the California Women's Chorus Vocal Scholarship Competition and a finalist in the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra Vocalist Competition. She has worked with several renowned opera directors, including Irene Dalis, Daniel Helfgot, Ragnar Conde, David Oswald, Danny Shay, Giorgio Tozzi, Michael Edwards, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni and James Lucas. She presently studies with Pamela Fry in Palo Alto.
